W A X I NG F A Q'S
How long should I grow my hair out? At least 3-4 weeks. The hair grows out in 3 stages. If the shortest hair hasn't grown out enough it won't come out and the waxing won't be as smooth as you'd like it.
Will I be red, itchy or breakout after a waxing? It depends on each individual and how sensitive they are to the procedure. As the Boutique uses the best wax on the market potential for breakouts and redness are substantially reduced.
When should I come back for my next Brazilian? At least 4-6 weeks. The Boutique also offers an incentive program, if you come back within the 4-6 weeks then the cost of the Brazilian is €10 less!
How long does it take to have a Brazilian done? For those of us who have been doing this a while it takes anywhere from 15-30 minutes depending on your hair and how much there is to wax and the coarseness. We allow 30 minutes for all Brazilians just so you don't feel rushed.
What is the difference between hot wax and strip wax? Hot wax is spread thickly onto the skin and allowed to dry slightly before it is gently and quickly peeled away. This method is far less painful than most and pulls hair directly from the roots. The benefits include fewer in-grown hairs, less breakage and therefore longer re-growth periods. This wax also promotes skin hydration and is highly recommended for sensitive areas. Strip wax is recommended for thicker/less sensitive skin, for example - legs. We always use hot wax on sensitive areas, we first apply an essential oil to the skin which acts as a barrier between the wax and the skin. Therefore, the wax is able to shrink wrap around the hair and will not stick to the skin. (Less tugging results in less pain!) Also our expert technicians use highly skilled techniques to minimise discomfort.
How should I prepare for waxing? To ensure ease in removal, any unwanted body hair should be at least 1/4" long and less than 1" in length. You will want to refrain from extended sun exposure 48 hours prior to waxing. You should lightly exfoliate your skin several days before waxing. On the day of your waxing services, you will want to make sure you thoroughly cleanse the area being waxed and that the skin is moist but not greasy from oils or lotions. For an underarm wax, please wash off any deodorant or anti-perspirant prior to your service (because it stops the wax from adhering properly). Women should avoid waxing during the three days prior to and during their periods – the skin is most sensitive during this time. Avoid caffine prior to appointment. Before you begin the treatment, there are a few things you should tell our therapists: if you: Are diabetic Bruise easily Have varicose veins Are sunburned Have thyroid condition Are menstruating Are using products/medications that are contraindicated for waxing: Accutane, Retine-A, glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy acid, Tazorac Avage, Differin, Strivectin, Renova, Proactive, Avita, benzoyl peroxide & salicylic acid. Your skin is important to you and us – so please check with your doctor if you have any doubts.
Why should I wax instead of shave? When hair is shaved, within a few days, the hair can be seen at the surface of the skin and coarse stubble can be felt. Shaving commonly results in ingrown hairs, bumps and ongoing skin irritation. When waxed, hair grows back slower, softer and without stubble. When a quality wax is used and appropriate post-waxing home care is followed, waxing leaves virtually no ingrown hairs, bumps or ongoing skin irritation. Waxing will, over time, make hair growth finer.
